INTRODUCTION
For decades, the migration of Samoans to the United States
has shaped generations through service, sacrifice, faith, resilience,
and cultural strength. From remote Islands of the South Pacific to the
neighborhoods of America, their migration has shaped lives,
communities, and history in ways rarely told on screen.
The Voyage is a six-part cinematic documentary series that chronicles
this journey not through statistics, but through lived experience.
From the first families who left the islands to serve in the United States
military, to the rise of Samoan athletes, dominating the world of
professional sports, to the artists, leaders, and everyday pioneers who
helped build communities across California and beyond. This series
captures the journey behind one of the most remarkable cultural
migrations in modern history.

THE
OVERVIEW
In the heart of the
Pacific, where the
islands of Samoa
rise from the ocean
like emerald jewels,
The Voyage begins.

The Voyage serves as
a permanent cinematic
archive of Samoan
cultural memory.
The project preserves generational
testimony and documents the
evolution of identity across
homeland and diaspora.
Its long-term value extends beyond
release into educational, archival,
and cultural preservation contexts.

THE

The Samoan way of life is rooted in deep tradition, where the past is honored, and every story and every song weaves together the living fabric of identity.
Yet as the world beyond Samoa
began to change during the 1960s,
the call of the “American Dream,”
with its promise of opportunity,
rang in the hearts of many who
called the island home. Samoans
who answered the call began
journeying into the unknown,
sacrificing their familiar shores for
the abundance they hoped to find
across the ocean.
Those who embarked on this voyage
faced obstacles that tested their
resolve, challenged their identity,
and forced them to reckon with
their struggle to adapt to a culture
so different from the one they had
always known.

THE

WHY THIS STORY.
WHY NOW.
Underrepresented Voices
Pacific Islander narratives remain among the most
overlooked in mainstream documentary storytelling.
Despite a growing diaspora population, their stories are
rarely centered and even more rarely told by community
insiders.
A Global Conversation
Worldwide dialogue around migration, indigenous
identity, and cultural preservation continues to expand.
Audiences, funders, and institutions are actively
seeking authentic stories from communities historically
excluded from the frame.
Universal Resonance
The Voyage offers a culturally grounded yet universally
resonant story of adaptation and endurance one that
speaks to any audience that has navigated the tension
between origin and arrival.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Voyage is dedicated to
preserving, honoring, and
amplifying the untold stories
of Samoan migration from
American Samoa to the United
States. Created to educate,
inspire, and empower. The
Voyage stands as a living
archive for future generations
and a bridge between island
roots and American culture.
